Service Description

It has been proven through various studies that the best treatment for Parkinson’s Disease is intense exercise that incorporates all the components  of fitness: agility, cardiovascular fitness, endurance, speed, flexibility, hand-eye coordination and strength. This type of exercise has been proven to slow the progression and can reverse some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (PD). In Rock Steady class, exercises are largely adapted from boxing drills. Boxers condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength to help delay and improve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.  Exercises vary in purpose and form but share one common trait: they are rigorous and intended to improve mobility and function and minimize the symptoms of PD. Lynnell helped found RockSteady Boxing Glacier in 2017. This is an affiliate program that gives people with Parkinson’s Disease hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum. Classes encompass all elements of fitness and exercises are specific to target the various symptoms of PD. Currently classes are held twice a week at Access Fitness in Kalispell. All of our coaches are Licensed Physical Therapy professionals who are experienced in treatment of PD and concurrent medical conditions.Classes are open to all people with Parkinson’s or related disorders, no matter the level of progression, as exercises can be modified so that anyone can participate. Our boxers have become their own ‘support group’ and many close friendships have blossomed in class.
